RC Column Designer

Strength design of reinforced-concrete columns to the NSCP 2015 / ACI 318-14. Check the axial capacity of a short tied or spiral column, plot the full P–M interaction diagram for a column under combined axial load and bending, or run a biaxial (Bresler) check. The app reports φPₙ, the utilization against your factored demand, draws the column cross-section and — in interaction mode — the interaction curve with your demand point plotted SAFE or OVER.

Design mode

Short concentric column — pure axial capacity φPₙ,max and utilization.

① Materials

② Column type & section

③ Longitudinal steel

One Ø25 = 491 mm², Ø20 = 314 mm², Ø28 = 616 mm², Ø32 = 804 mm².

④ Factored load (optional — for utilization)

Leave blank to report capacity only. With Pu the app gives the utilization Pu/φPn,max and a SAFE / OVER verdict.

② Rectangular section (bending about x — depth h)

Distance from the face to the centre of the nearest bar layer (clear cover + tie + ½ bar).

③ Longitudinal steel

Bars along the top face = along the bottom face.

④ Factored demand

The demand point (Mu, Pu) is plotted on the φ curve — inside = SAFE, outside = OVER.

Worked solution

⚠️ Preliminary / verification aid. Results follow NSCP 2015 / ACI 318-14 strength design for a short column. Slenderness, minimum eccentricity, detailing (tie spacing, bar arrangement, splices) and load combinations must be confirmed by full design before construction.
