Embedment of a sheet-pile wall in cohesionless soil — cantilever (simplified moment-balance about the toe) and anchored bulkhead (free-earth-support: moments about the anchor → embedment D, then ΣH → anchor force T). Cantilever: no anchor; the embedment alone resists. Simplified moment-balance about the toe.
Geometry & soil (cohesionless)
Single effective unit weight γ_e is used throughout (dry → γ; submerged → γ′ = γ_sat − 9.81, with balanced water assumed). Design embedment = factor × theoretical depth (typ. 1.2–1.4).
